Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.
So, do you love Him? Are you called? Then why is it that you feel as though everything is against you? I am going to endeavour to answer these questions for you.
Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said to him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
It is easy to say that you love God, but your love for God is expressed in the manner that you treat your neighbour. We say that we love God, but when someone comes to us with a need, either physical, spiritual or even emotional Christians have a tendency to ask: “where is your faith? What have you done to deserve this? There must be sin in your life or you do not have enough faith for God to allow such terrible things to happen to you.”
These comments come from a heart that is lacking in compassion and mercy! There are occasions when they do apply, but that is another sermon. What I am referring to here is the need to love your neighbour as yourself. How can you love your neighbour if you do not fully identify with their problem? Because it is not in your experience! Would you address yourself in this manner if you were in such dire straits?
It is easy to preach from the self-righteous platform of plenty where we are completely lacking in empathy because we have not been there.
1. Jesus knew lack – the son of man has no place to rest his head
2. He knew pain – He was crucified
3. Humiliation – the cross was the most shameful way to die
4. Betrayal – His disciple turned him over to his enemy.
5. He knew loss of a loved one – He had never been separated from His father, but God turned away from His son when all our sins were placed on Him
If anyone had the rights to self-righteousness, Jesus did. Yet, every act of kindness He performed was done out of compassion. He was able to empathise with the human being because He took on the form of a man. I am not preaching to the self-righteous, I am talking to those who find themselves in difficult circumstances through no fault of their own. God did not put you in this position to punish you; He brought you here to edify you.
God is taking you along a path which is unfamiliar, so that you can recognise it when you see it again. Be encouraged, God is taking you to a new place in Him, a place of strength. A place where you can see with a heart filled with compassion the pain and need in others. Whatever you are going through, it is for His Glory!!
Prayer: Lord please let your peace which transcends all understanding guard my heart and my mind. Strengthen me in every way to continue to stand strong in my faith in You. You are my provider, my healer, my salvation. I thank you that you are taking me to new heights in my Christian faith. Continue to work in me and increase the anointing as I submit to you. For your Glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
